Will Wright is an American video game designer and co-founded the game development company Maxis.

Career

In 1984, Wright created Raid on Bungeling Bay, described by him as his first full game.

In the mid-1980s, Wright co-founded Maxis with Jeff Braun, establishing the studio that published SimCity and later became part of Electronic Arts.

SimCity was released in 1989 and became Wright's breakthrough hit.

The Sims launched in 2000 and became a major cultural and commercial success.

In 2009, Wright left EA and partnered with EA around his independent entertainment venture Stupid Fun Club.

Interesting Facts

  • While making Raid on Bungeling Bay, Wright found building worlds with his editor more enjoyable than playing the finished action game; that editor evolved into SimCity.
  • Wright programmed Raid on an Apple II and then transferred the code to the Commodore 64, while also handling the game's art and design.
