Naoki Hamaguchi is a Japanese video-game programmer and director associated with Square Enix's Final Fantasy projects. He is an Executive Officer and Head of Creative Studio 1 at Square Enix Co., Ltd.

Career

Joined Square Enix in 2003 and contributed to Final Fantasy XII.

Served as Project Leader for Mobius Final Fantasy by 2016.

Was identified by Square Enix as the Final Fantasy VII Remake Development Leader in 2018.

Became Co-Director of Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2019.

Was selected to direct the next Final Fantasy VII Remake project after the first game's co-director role.

Interesting Facts

  • Final Fantasy VI, which he played as a student, inspired Hamaguchi to pursue game development.
  • He did not initially join Square Enix intending to become a director and spent much of his career developing as an engineer/programmer before moving into directing.
