Koichi Ishii is a Japanese video game creator known for work on the Final Fantasy and Mana series and for founding GREZZO.

Career

At Square, Ishii planned the first Final Fantasy and developed core concepts for its world, systems and character presentation.

Ishii directed Seiken Densetsu, released internationally as Final Fantasy Adventure, establishing the Mana series he is associated with.

Ishii became the original director of Final Fantasy XI and led the project through the Rise of the Zilart expansion.

Ishii founded GREZZO, became its Representative Director in 2007, and is currently listed by the company as CEO while continuing game-development work.

On Visions of Mana, Ishii served as supervisor of series monster design.

  • Ishii designed the recurring Chocobo and Moogle characters associated with Final Fantasy.
