Eiji Aonuma

Eiji Aonuma is a Japanese video-game designer, director and producer working at Nintendo. He is the producer of The Legend of Zelda series.

Career

Aonuma joined Nintendo in 1988 after completing graduate design study at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.

His first major original game leadership role was director of Marvelous: Mōhitotsu no Takarajima in 1996.

His first Zelda assignment was dungeon design for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Aonuma became director of The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask after his Ocarina of Time work.

Interesting Facts

  • Aonuma is a member of Nintendo's employee band The Wind Wakers and plays percussion, including bongos, congas and timpani.
  • In a Nintendo interview, Aonuma said Toon Link felt like his own child because his son was born around the time Toon Link was created.
