Ed Boon is a video game designer, creative director, and co-creator of Mortal Kombat. He is Chief Creative Officer at NetherRealm Studios.

Career

After joining Williams Electronics, Boon began in pinball programming and later moved into the video-game department.

Boon worked on High Impact Football and Super High Impact before Mortal Kombat.

Boon co-created Mortal Kombat with John Tobias; the original arcade release arrived in 1992.

  • Boon initially thought his Williams interview concerned video games and was surprised to learn it was for programming pinball machines.
  • Boon said the Scorpion line “Get over here!” was conceived spontaneously during a motion-capture shoot and became an iconic Mortal Kombat catchphrase.
