Derek Yu is a visual artist and game designer.
Career
Yu co-created Aquaria, which received the 2007 IGF Seumas McNally Grand Prize.
Yu started Mossmouth as a one-man studio in 2009 to release Spelunky.
The HD remake of Spelunky released for Xbox 360 on July 4, 2012; Derek was responsible for graphics and design.
Spelunky 2 released for PlayStation 4 on September 15, 2020, followed by Steam on September 29, 2020.
UFO 50 released on Steam on September 18, 2024.
Interesting Facts
- As children, Yu and Jon Perry released freeware games under the Blackeye Software label, culminating in Eternal Daughter in 2002.
- Yu wrote the 2016 book Spelunky, published by Boss Fight Books.
